Côtes de thongue

A great diversity of soils

All on slopes, the 30 hectares of the Domaine reflect this diversity:

 Pliocine Marl
Six million years old
A silty clayey soil with coarse inclusions
Red to pale beige in colour
Free draining.

 Sandstone and sandy marl
Origine : Eocène,
From the Eocene period 20 - 65 million years ago
A chalky-clayey soil
Beige-ochre in colour
Reasonably free draining.

Villafranchine Terraces

from the Quaternary period 1 - 3 million years ago
soil made up of silica pebbles with gravel and silty sandy clay
Reddish in colour
Very free draining.

This variety of soils combined with different varieties of grapes allows us to make individual, elegant, structured and complex wines. In addition ,the warm dry climate modified by the influence of the sea (25 km away) makes for early maturing and helps to maintain a constant quality from vintage to vintage.
